CARE

Unity of the Stuart Weitzman School of Design and its ethos of caring guides our proposal for a sculptural urban object and parkette. With our proposal we aim at initiating a collegial and constructive conversation among dean, donor and the Weitzman faculty for the development of a unifying architectural artifact. The principal idea of Care being the new Weitzman hall's urban embrace and the school's ethos of care is given physical expression through sculptural form, inviting an immersive experience of communal interaction, communication and care. Care connects Stuart Weitzman Hall with the historic Meyerson building, and forms one integrated campus assembly that unites Meyerson, Morgan, and the new building extension. Urbanistically a beacon and connector, it expands the concept of care to encompass the material and the symbolic. The ethics of care assign moral value to human relationships – Weitzman Care is a physical tribute to these relationships celebrating caring as a core value of our School. Contrasting utilitarian ethics, the ethics of care relate caring for the environment to social care, as it associates with feminist ethics, African ethics, and bioethics, promoting equity and inclusion.
